Hoping you'll WANT to be sent to Siberia! Tourism campaign uses bikini-clad girls to tempt travellers to Russia's coldest region

  • Tourism board released these chilly snaps as part of new campaign
  • The largely unpopulated region touted as a relaxing remote destination
  • Campaign meant to highlight that winter is a time of 'excitement and fun'

A Russian tourism board responsible for promoting the country's most isolated and remote region is hoping to make being sent to Siberia something positive.

Their latest advertising campaign features girls sunbathing on a frozen lake covered in snow.

The chilly snaps were taken by the Siberian tourism board on the ice of an artificial lake in Zheleznogorsk, about 43 miles from the city of Krasnoyarsk.

Although Siberia has a reputation for being inhospitable because of the severe cold of its winters, it does have several upmarket hotels and top quality restaurants catering for a new brand of eco-tourists interested in getting up close and personal with nature.

The new project I am Siberian (imsiberian.com/portfolio/bp) has been set up to market the area.

As a largely unpopulated region, tourism chief Alexey Teleshov believes that Siberia really is the perfect place to relax and to get away from it all.

He said: 'We offer everything ranging from adventure tourist activities like hovercrafting, snowkiting, scuba diving, and aerobatic flights through to attractions for people who simply want the peace and quiet of the undiscovered wilderness.'

Attractions include the spectacular light displays of the Aurora Borealis, watching wildlife such as bears, and for fishing and hiking for hunters.

According to Teleshov however they felt that such a message was not being passed on well enough, and so decided to organise a photo shoot to really help the point resonate.

'Here in Siberia we like to celebrate winters with a lot of excitement, a lot of fun and memories to last,' he added.
